Limited Ultrasound

A positive pregnancy test is a pretty good indication that you are pregnant, A limited free ultrasound can verify pregnancy. An ultrasound scan is a painless test that uses sound waves to create images of organs and structures inside your body. It is a very commonly used test. As it uses sound waves and not radiation, it is thought to be harmless. Doppler and duplex scans are used to visualise blood or fluids flowing through the body. A limited free ultrasound exam performed at Women’s Center of Lafayette will determine the following:

Verify pregnancy

Detect fetal heart beat
Determine fetal age and due date
An ultrasound can confirm whether the pregnancy is intrauterine, meaning in the uterus
An ultrasound allows pregnancy to be revealed to the mother

Women’s Center of Lafayette does not perform ultrasound for the purpose of diagnosing any medical problems or to detect congenital or organ abnormalities. A referral can be given for a comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound.

Patients will qualify for limited free ultrasound examinations if it has been 7 weeks since their last menstrual period. Our nurses are trained in limited obstetrical ultrasound.
